Thamanna Akthar , Forgotten Legacy

Forgotten Legacy is a series of portraits which present the influences of cultural identity within my own identity and how being multi-cultural has enabled me to form a fused hybrid culture. In the series, the elements of Western and South Asian traditions are quite subtle. It portrays how normal the fusion of the two styles are to me and how the South Asian element can be easily forgotten or overlooked.

The series also challenges the misconceptions of being from an Indian or Pakistani heritage due to the lack of acknowledgment for Bangladesh. It has also enabled me to break free from the fashion sense that is normal to me and self-reflect on my own culture and how it has affected me and my identity. ‘Forgotten Legacy’ has led me to embrace my own culture, therefore, leading me to use green in the background of my portraits, an integral colour in the Bangladesh flag.
